This Pew Research study claims that young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 are “more vigilant” about their privacy compared to older internet users.
igby makes some observations:
I think this awareness simply stems from the fact that they’ve grown up with the internet and have seen how their peers have been embarrassed or humiliated online. I think we’re supposed to be impressed by the fact that the young ‘uns aren’t as irresponsible or carefree as we think they are, but they’re also the most self-conscious, awkward group, no?
I suspect “older” internet users (age 55 - 64) don’t change their privacy settings or de-tag themselves from photos because they never really thought about it. At their age, they’re less likely to have pictures of themselves passed out drunk on a bathroom that potential employers could discover.
